It’s virtually an irreversible law: the more advanced portable gadgets such as mobile handsets and notebook computers become, the faster their batteries will croak, which means their holders will splurge more time recharging them. Professional analyzer Frost & Sullivan has gathered official facts that proves this rule, and assumes that the green charger market will soon burst

Those of you abroad that have been waiting patiently for your chance at an iPad, your time has finally come. While i’m sure Apple is apologetic for making you all wait nearly a month longer than intended due to outrageous U.S. demand for their latest gadget, but in the tech world I believe it’s become more of a “better late than never world” and we hope you’re still excited about the release. As you probably know by now i’m definitely an anti-Apple enthusiast, but having played around with the iPad we picked up I have to say it’s truly a pleasure to use and the wait you endured will be well worth it. The dates you’ve been waiting for are May 28th to pick one up in stores, and May 10th to place your pre-orders to ensure you get one (if demand in Europe/Asia is anything like it was in the U.S.

Recently, Sony Ericsson has presented a new mobile phone called Zylo. This is the latest of their “Walkman Phone” lineup. One main feature of this mobile phone is that it includes plenty of social features, so it is effortless for you to easily access Facebook and Twitter. Sony Ericsson Zylo supports the HD FLAC audio format, a high-quality lossless audio codec. Unlike the MP3 and AAC audio codecs this doesn’t reduce the audio quality and delivers the best experience with the proprietary Clear Audio technology! Another key feature on the Sony Ericsson Zylo mobile phone is TrackID – which allows users to access the name and artist of a track they hear playing. This function has proved popular with music lovers with 129 million TrackID lookups in 2009 alone! This is really amazing, isn’t it? Bad news for Palm in it’s third quarter fiscal year earnings released yesterday. The reported net loss of $22 million is an fairly large improvement over the $98 million reported during Q3 of 2009. In terms of total revenue, Palm’s has increased $90.6 million from the same quarter in 2009, up to $349 million. Despite the rather large improvement over their sales in 2009 it hasn’t been enough to bring them into the green. The numbers are better than their previous year, but due to their massive net loss over the past few years demanded a positive year that they just couldn’t achieve. Despite shipping 960,000 smartphones which is a 23% increase over the prior quarter, only 408,000 units were sold which is a 29% drop from second quarter of 2010 and 15% decrease for the year. CEO Jon Rubinstein stated the struggle Palm has been facing is “deeply disappointing” and that Palm’s board would consider any “reasonable offer” for an acquisition.

Google can’t seem to catch a break with their Nexus One. The less than expected sales on their Nexus One (pretty sure we’ve covered that the online-only sales weren’t the wisest marketing strategy), their filtering issues with China, the onslaught from Apple against their HTC Android partner (which many see as an indirect attack on

Yesterday HTC issued a statement voicing it’s adamant take on the current situation and conflict with Apple,”HTC disagrees with Apple’s actions and will fully defend itself. HTC strongly advocates intellectual property protection and will continue to respect other innovators and their technologies as we have always done, but we will continue to embrace competition through our own innovation as a healthy way for consumers to get the best mobile experience possible,” Peter Chou, Chief Executive Officer of HTC said. HTC sticks by the idea of creating innovative smartphones and referenced many of it’s “firsts” to back up that statement such as; Windows PDA, Windows Phone, 3G CDMA EVDO smartphone, gesture-based smartphone, Google Android smartphone, and 4G WiMAX smartphone. The statement was regarding the March 2nd, 2010 complain Apple filed with the International Trade Commission (ITC) and U.S. District Court in Delaware accusing HTC of infringing on 20 patents from user interfaces (UI’s) to hardware. Steve Jobs said,”We can sit by and watch our competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We’ve decided to do something about it.” Considering HTC has had more firsts as of late than Apple, on top of the fact that their phones are being utilized on so many networks, and most importantly that their Android partner is Google which is stated they stand behind HTC, I’m not sure what ground Apple has to stand on

TeliaSonera has today flicked on the green light for its LTE networks in Stockholm and Oslo, officially starting the countdown for LTE-enabled phones . For the moment, keen mobile webstronauts will only be able to hook up their laptop or other USB-equipped device via the Samsung-provided 4G modem, but 100Mbps download speeds on the world’s first commercial LTE network are still nothing to sniff at. This rollout is in fact slightly ahead of schedule, and the other major cities in Sweden and Norway are likely to soon get treated similarly well, while TeliaSonera makes a point to mention it has a license to do similar damage to Finland’s 3G operators. The US might not be too far behind, either, given that the modem in use in Scandinavia recently cleared the FCC . Now if only we had phones that could ride these massive waves we’d be all set. TeliaSonera launches world’s first LTE network, awaits phones eagerly originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 14 Dec 2009 07:14:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds . Permalink

Not only are we seeing the mobile industry push for a cleaner, reuse-/recycle-based planet in the multiple handsets fabricated from previously used material, that sport solar panels and that are safely recyclable, but now GSMA is testing the limits of human ability to preserve resources. With the publication of a document title Green Manifesto, which touches on the potential for wireless industries collaboration in effort and governmental regulation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions %40 by the year 2020, GSMA dreams to accomplish carbon neutral growth. They’re even taking it to the extent of sending delegates to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December to drive for these goals.

Madcatz has two new Xbox 360 peripherals out to compliment Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 , a controller with mappable buttons and a badass throat mic . I actually like them both. Price $30 for the throat mic. $50 for the controller. Verdict Both peripherals are decent, but both could stand a $10-$15 price drop, too. The throat mic is pure adolescent fun

It may still have a few lingering problems with the “smartbook” name, but it looks like Qualcomm is pushing ahead with the still-nascent product category nonetheless, with CEO Paul Jacobs taking advantage of a recent investor get-together in New York to show off a new Lenovo-built smartbook that will apparently be offered by AT&T. Unfortunately, neither Lenovo nor AT&T is saying anything about the device just yet, and Jacobs doesn’t seem to have offered much more than what was already known from the standard smartbook specs . There is the requisite low-res photo captured from the webcast, however, and all parties involved should be doing plenty more talking when this one makes its official debut at CES in January.
