I was lucky enough for my Philips (Smart Touch XL HQ9140) to break so (being as I had taken replacement cover) I was able to go for a different shaver. This time (simply as a decent mid-range model was a lot cheaper and I also needed a good kettle :o) I went for a Braun (Smartcontrol 4875).
What can I say? I was surprised at the difference in quality. The braun feels (and sounds) much more powerful and accurate. It gives a much more satisfying cutting sound/feeling and seems to cut closer with less iritation.
The only problem is that the sideburn attachment isn't as easy to use as a Philips for cutting nostril hair. The good thing is though that if you look around it comes with a free Braun Precision Trimmer (a seperate unit shaped like a pen), which is more accurate and easier to use than a Philips (this also comes with tiny, clipper-like guards for tidying up your eyebrows). Even if you can't find this free, the combined cost is still cheaper than a mid-range Philips. |
Very pleased

Without a doubt the best electric shaver I've ever owned.
This is the first Braun shaver that I've owned and, from my experience of other brands Philishave and Panasonic to name just two, it is well ahead of the competition. Add to that the fact that it is well made, solid, sits comfortably and safely in the hand thanks to it's shape and grippy handhold section, can be rinsed under the tap and also comes in a sturdy plastic case and you'll struggle to do better.
Although not quite as good as a wet shave the 4875 comes very, very, very close. |

| 4875 great shaver smooth shave. I used to own the classic "3 blade rotary shaver and had various models". This braun nails them flat end of. Very very powerful shave and close very close. Nearly as close as a wet shave, wish i had made the change years ago. I used to get the odd in grown hair, but not with this shaver. Also worth mentioning is i dont get any razor burn and i do have sensitive skin. The question remains how long will the foil last braun say 18months time will tell...but so far very good. Shaver is lounder than some perhaps a small negative. The bruan give you a strong solid powerful close shave, this statement probably sums it all up. |
